1% Improvement in workplace productivity could add £20B to UK economy
The Stoddart review, named The Workplace Advantage, was published to encourage businesses to make the most of their offices and their workplace strategies. To ensure that staff are both well and productive. The impact on business output and the UK economy could be significant with relatively small changes in building control.
"The Stoddart Review reveals that an effective workplace can improve business productivity by as much as 3.5%. Economic Duncan Weldon believes that could add up to £70 billion to the UK economy."
Demand Logic has developed a method for measuring the real-time staff cost of lost productivity from ineffective building controls. Ask one of our team to show you the Comfort & Productivity Tracker if you haven't previously see this feature.

Verdantix Market Overview: REEFIM
Market analysts Verdantix has started to cover the emerging Real Estate, Energy & Facilites Information Management (REEFIM) market. Recognising that energy mangement can no longer be a separate software element and must be integrated with a broader view for building management.
Demand Logic was mention in the study:
"Across the REEFIM market, software vendors are looking to more closely align building efficiency with an approach that also includes improving occupant well-being and comfort (see Verdantix Facilities Optimization Management Emerges As A New Vision For Optimizing Building Portfolios). The premise is that some trade-off in efficiency initiatives can provide greater benefits in terms of reducing employee absences and improving productivity. Demand Logic incorporates comfort metrics within its web-based energy software for commercial buildings. Schneider Electric’s SmartStruxure Solution looks to optimize building performance, whilst prioritizing the comfort and well-being of occupants. This approach is resonating with customers – we heard from a call centre manager that employee absence levels are so high, to the order of 5%, that improving worker conditions is a priority."
If you would like a copy of the Market Overview then please contact Demand Logic or you can get it direct from Verdantix via thislink.

Buildings emit 4x more CO2 than they were designed to
The Building Performance Evaluation is an £8M study by InnovateUK which assessed the performance of 50 commercial buildings over 4 years from design through construction and commissioning into operation. It found a systemic problem that, on average, the buildings emitted 3.7x more carbon dioxide than the design specification. The best example was 2x worse and the worst example was 10x.
These emissions all came from poor energy usage in the buildings. It is equivalent to buying a new car which is said to provide 60 mpg and then having to foot the bill for 15 mpg. In the buildings which were assessed the most common problems were out of hours operation and incorrect building control.
The finding of the BPE would suggest that design standards cannot deliver lower emissions on their own and that operational ratings to encourage on-going optimisation is required.
